Two Welsh community groups receive green energy funding

Welsh Government has announced that two organisations in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot have received £338,951 in funding. The money will support green energy projects under the Ynni Cymru programme.

Welsh Government has confirmed that £338,951 has been awarded to two organisations in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot. The funding is part of the third round of the Ynni Cymru programme, which has allocated £8.27 million to 24 organisations across Wales.

The Swansea Mosque and Islamic Community Centre will use its share of the funding to install battery storage and a hybrid heat pump system. Hasan Miah at the centre said: "This investment will help ensure the centre remains a warm and welcoming place for older people, families with children and those experiencing financial hardship, while allowing us to continue supporting the community for years to come." The centre sees 5,000 visits per week, and savings from the energy improvements will help support services like the food bank and provide warm packs in winter.

Pontardawe Golf Club will also benefit from the award, using the funding to reduce energy costs and environmental impact. The Ynni Cymru programme helps communities and businesses create and use clean energy to lower bills. Since its launch in 2023, the scheme has supported over 80 projects, with total investment exceeding £31 million.
