Redhill station trains replaced by buses over Christmas

Trains passing through Redhill will be replaced by buses from 20 December to 3 January, Network Rail has announced. Southern services between Redhill and Tonbridge will run only between Edenbridge and Tonbridge. Parking at Redhill station will be severely restricted.

Network Rail has announced that major track improvement work at Redhill will replace trains with buses between Sunday 20 December and Sunday 3 January. The project involves installing new track switches and crossings to improve reliability on the Southern region’s railway network. This work is part of a £31.7 million investment in the area.

Passengers travelling through Redhill station will find that services on the slow lines are suspended during this period. Earlswood, Redhill, Merstham, Couldson South, Nutfield, and Godstone stations will have no train services, relying solely on bus replacements. Trains will continue to run on the fast lines through the area, while Southern services between Redhill and Tonbridge will only operate between Edenbridge and Tonbridge.

Lucy McAuliffe, Sussex Route Director for Network Rail, said: "We need to renew more than a mile of track infrastructure at Redhill, but we're not able to do this without an extended closure, which is why we've planned this work over the Christmas period, when the number of people travelling is typically lower than at other times of the year."

Parking at Redhill station will be severely restricted to make way for the work site. This limitation applies to all drivers accessing the station during the closure period. The announcement does not specify the exact number of parking spaces removed or provide alternative parking locations nearby.
