Rail works close line between Worcester and Hereford

Network Rail has announced five days of essential engineering works between Worcester and Hereford during the October half-term. The improvements will take place from Monday 26 to Friday 30 October, with rail replacement buses operating on affected sections.

Network Rail has confirmed that the railway line between Worcester and Hereford will undergo essential improvements during the October half-term. The works are scheduled to run from Monday 26 to Friday 30 October, affecting services on this stretch of track. Passengers should expect disruption while engineers carry out the planned upgrades.

The project includes renewing 100 metres of track between Henwick and Newlands level crossing. Engineers will also improve drainage, clear vegetation, and replace signalling equipment in the same area. Normal train services are expected to resume on Saturday 31 October 2026, once the works are complete.

Replacement road transport will be provided between Hereford, Great Malvern and Worcester Shrub Hill, which will make journey times longer than usual. An amended service will also be in place between Birmingham and Worcester, with rail replacement connecting customers to Hereford and Great Malvern. GWR trains can still run between Worcester Shrub Hill and London Paddington via Oxford during the works.

Adam Checkley, engineering director for Network Rail’s Central route, said: "We know there is never a good time to close the railway, so we're making the most of these five days to complete a wide range of essential improvements." The announcement does not specify any additional compensation details for affected passengers.
