Public Health Wales launches vaping quit app module
Public Health Wales has announced a new module in the NHS Wales Help Me Quit app to support people stopping vaping. New laws restricting the sale and promotion of vaping products took effect on the same day. The module is mainly targeted at adults.
Public Health Wales has launched a new module within the NHS Wales Help Me Quit app to help individuals stop vaping. This service change coincides with new legislation that restricts the sale and promotion of vaping and non-medicinal nicotine products. The module provides personalised quit planning and tools to reduce nicotine strength and frequency.
The new laws prohibit the sale of nicotine-free vapes and nicotine products, including pouches, to under-18s. Promotional giveaways and substantial discounts on these items are also banned. Mary-Ann McKibben, Consultant in Public Health for Public Health Wales, said: "The new vaping module provides a practical, evidence-based and proportionate response."
Users can set goals, track progress, and manage cravings through the digital tool. According to Public Health Wales, vaping is substantially less harmful than smoking, and staying smoke-free remains the priority for former smokers. The resources are provided bilingually and are primarily aimed at adults.
Deputy Minister for Public and Preventative Health, Nerys Evans, noted that help is available for anyone looking to cut down or quit. She added that stopping under 18-year-olds from accessing these products gives young people a better chance to grow up healthier and free from nicotine addiction.
