Norfolk holds first Youth Guarantee Jobs fair

Norfolk has held its first Youth Guarantee Jobs fair, bringing together employers and young people to explore agricultural careers. Department for Work and Pensions announced the event as part of a wider youth employment support package.

Department for Work and Pensions announced that Norfolk has held its first Youth Guarantee Jobs fair. The event brought together employers and young people to explore careers in agriculture. Work and Pensions Secretary Pat McFadden said: "Every young person deserves the chance to fulfil their potential, which is why we're bringing jobs, training and support directly into communities."

According to the department, 65 employers and partners attended the fair to offer opportunities to young people from rural and countryside communities. Participants took part in agricultural simulations, including virtual reality welding, HGV training, and building water irrigation networks. An employability zone was also available, offering advice on job searching, applications, and interview preparation.

The event is part of a government youth employment support package backed by £2.5 billion. Figures published with the announcement show that similar fairs in other UK cities have resulted in over 1,000 young people moving into jobs or training. The government aims to offer young people under 25 pathways including employment, education, apprenticeships, or work experience.

Farmer Will, an influencer and farmer, added that giving young people the chance to meet employers is important. The support package is expected to create 500,000 opportunities. The announcement does not state when the next fair in Norfolk will take place.
