Finance Minister John O’Dowd has announced £23.31 million in Resource funding from the Local Growth Fund, covering the years 2027/28 and 2028-29. The Northern Ireland Executive states the money will support interventions that make a difference to people, families, businesses, and workers, while helping create opportunities for those seeking to enter or return to employment.
The Department for Communities will receive £19.52 million for an Economic Inclusion programme, while the Department for the Economy will use £3.79 million to support business growth and innovation. Minister O’Dowd said: "This investment will provide certainty for delivery partners as they plan and implement programmes over the coming years."
Work is currently progressing to allocate a further £57.77 million, primarily capital funding, for the same period. This follows a previous capital allocation of £27.4 million made in August 2026. The new Resource funding is in addition to £11.8 million being delivered by MHCLG in 2026/27.
The Local Growth Fund is a Ministry of Housing Communities and Local Government Fund. According to the announcement, the funding demonstrates the Executive commitment to ensuring the fund delivers tangible economic and social benefits, helping to build a stronger, more inclusive and sustainable economy.
