Most train services to run normally as Storm Boelo recovery nears completion

Network Rail has confirmed that the vast majority of train services are expected to run as normal on Monday. Recovery work to clear debris and repair infrastructure continues through Sunday evening, with some disruption likely to persist into the morning.

Network Rail has announced that most train services are scheduled to operate normally on Monday as the railway recovers from Storm Boelo. Gary Hopkirk, route director at Network Rail Scotland, stated: "Our focus throughout has been on keeping people safe and trains moving wherever possible."

Recovery operations involve clearing fallen trees and debris, repairing overhead lines, and addressing flooding and power failures. Specialist equipment and a Network Rail helicopter will be used for overnight checks to ensure lines are clear of damage before trains return. Mark Ilderton, ScotRail service delivery director, noted that services are expected to run from the start of service across much of the country.

Passengers are advised to check their journey before travelling, as some disruption may continue. Specific routes, including Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh, Inverness to Thurso and Wick, Glasgow Queen Street to Fort William and Oban, and Ayr to Stranraer, may face continued disruption on Monday morning. The announcement, dated Sunday 25 Oct 2026, advises passengers to allow extra time and consult National Rail and their train operator before setting off.
