Major rail disruption in North West due to Storm Boelo

Network Rail has announced major disruption to train services in the North West of England on Sunday 25 October. Torrential rain and strong winds have caused track flooding and damage to overhead power lines. Some operators are not running any services.

Network Rail has warned passengers of significant journey interruptions across the North West region on Sunday 25 October. The disruption follows the impact of Storm Boelo, which brought torrential rain and strong winds to the area. Engineers worked through the night to inspect routes, remove debris, and manage flooding.

Gusts of 50 to 60mph affected northern areas, contributing to the damage. Chris Wright, the route director for Network Rail North West, said: "We're really sorry for the disruption to people's journeys today caused by Storm Boelo." Temporary speed restrictions are in place to allow trains to operate safely in the difficult conditions.

Train services are expected to be delayed, amended, or cancelled for most of the day in affected areas. Some train operators are not running any services at all. The severe weather is also affecting roads, power supplies, and other infrastructure across northern Britain.

Network Rail advises people to check nationalrail.co.uk before attempting any train journey in or through the region. The guidance urges everyone to follow the advice of their train operator, as weather conditions are changing quickly.
