Government confirms spring 2027 COVID-19 vaccine eligibility

The Department of Health and Social Care has confirmed the eligibility groups for the spring 2027 COVID-19 vaccination programme. The decision follows advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI). Adults aged 75 and over, as well as immunosuppressed individuals aged 6 months and over, are included.

The Department of Health and Social Care has accepted advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) regarding who is eligible for the spring 2027 COVID-19 vaccination programme. The government stated that it aims to protect those most vulnerable to serious outcomes from the virus. This decision aligns with previous spring vaccination schemes in terms of the groups covered.

Under the plans, adults aged 75 and over are eligible for the vaccine. People aged 6 months and over who are immunosuppressed are also included in the eligibility criteria. All residents of care homes for older adults will be offered the jab. Dame Diana Johnson, Minister of State for Public Health and Patient Safety, said: "Older adults and people who are immunosuppressed remain at higher risk from COVID-19."

These eligibility groups are the same as in previous spring programmes. The government will offer vaccinations to those at the highest risk in spring 2027. The announcement does not specify a start date for the rollout or details on how appointments will be booked. It also does not state whether new groups will be added later in the year.
