FCDO updates Malawi visa costs and passport validity rules
The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office has published updated travel advice for Malawi. The guidance details specific US dollar costs for visas and confirms passport validity requirements for British citizens.
The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office has updated its travel advice for Malawi to include new information regarding foreign currency rules for visas. The department clarified that while visas can be obtained on arrival, payment must be made in US dollars cash.
Figures published with the announcement show the cost of a single-entry visa is 50 US dollars. A six-month multiple entry visa is priced at 150 US dollars, and a one-year multiple entry visa costs 250 US dollars. These payments are required in cash upon arrival in the country.
Passports held by travellers must be valid for at least 6 months after the date of arrival in Malawi. This requirement applies to individuals travelling on a full ‘British citizen’ passport from the United Kingdom.
The guidance also notes that travellers must possess a yellow fever vaccination certificate if they are arriving from a country listed as a transmission risk. Additionally, specific documentation rules apply for children under the age of 17 when passing through South Africa, though the primary focus of this update remains Malawi entry requirements.
