Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office says it has updated travel advice for Kenya, including new mandatory travel insurance requirements. It says passports must be valid for at least 6 months after arrival and have at least 2 blank pages.

Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office says it has updated its travel advice for Kenya. The update includes new mandatory travel insurance requirements and specifies areas where travel is advised against due to terrorism risks.

It says travel insurance may be invalidated if a person travels against FCDO advice. It advises against all travel to Mandera County, parts of Wajir County within 60km of the border with Somalia, most of Garissa County, and most of Lamu County. It also advises against all but essential travel to Garissa Town, Tana River County north of the Tana River, and areas within 15km of the east coast between the Tana River and the Galana River.

It says passports used to enter Kenya must be valid for at least 6 months after the arrival date and have at least 2 blank pages. Kenyan authorities set and enforce entry rules. Travelers should contact the Kenyan High Commission in the UK if unsure about requirements.

The announcement does not state when these new requirements will take effect or provide details on which insurance providers are affected by the invalidation clause.
