FCDO advises against all but essential travel to Saudi Arabia
The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office has announced updated advice against all but essential travel to Saudi Arabia. The department also advises against all travel to within 10km of the border with Yemen. Travel insurance may be invalidated if you travel against this advice.
The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office has published new travel guidance for Saudi Arabia. The update advises against all but essential travel to the country and specifically against all travel to within 10km of the border with Yemen. The department notes a heightened threat against airports, military buildings, bases, ports, and energy infrastructure across the region.
A serious incident occurred at King Khalid International Airport at 3pm on 10 October 2026. British nationals are advised to stay away from the airport until it is secure. Since 13 July, the Houthis have launched missiles and drones, although the US and Iran announced a memorandum of understanding on 17 June 2026. There remains a possibility of renewed attacks by Iran according to the guidance.
British nationals wishing to leave the country should consider travelling by land to a neighbouring country. The advice adds that individuals should avoid capturing or sharing images of conflict-related incidents. It also states that British nationals should stay away from areas around oil infrastructure and military facilities. Those remaining in the region are encouraged to sign up for FCDO Travel Advice email alerts.
The announcement does not state when the security situation may improve or when the travel advice will be reviewed again.
