Cornwall holds first Youth Guarantee Jobs Fair at Eden Project
More than 250 young people secured job opportunities at Cornwall’s first Youth Guarantee Jobs Fair, held at the Eden Project, according to the Department for Work and Pensions. Over 500 attendees participated in the event, which forms part of a wider government support package.
The Department for Work and Pensions has reported that Cornwall’s first Youth Guarantee Jobs Fair was held at the Eden Project. The event brought together local employers and young jobseekers in a dedicated space for recruitment and career advice. Work and Pensions Secretary Pat McFadden said: "Every young person deserves the chance to fulfil their potential, which is why we're bringing jobs, training and support directly into communities."
Figures published with the announcement show that over 500 young people attended the fair. During the event, more than 250 of them secured job opportunities. The initiative is part of a government package backed by £2.5 billion, which aims to create 500,000 opportunities. The department states that 1,000 young people have moved into jobs, work experiences or training opportunities via Jobs Fairs.
Under the plans, the government commits to offering pathways to young people under 25. These pathways include employment, education, apprenticeships, or work experience. Google also held a workshop at the fair, helping jobseekers use AI for CVs and interview preparation. The department expects these measures to support almost one million young people through the wider support package.
Pat McFadden added that businesses and local partners were opening doors for hundreds of young people. The minister noted that the roles offered included not just interviews, but also mentorship and career advice. Through the Youth Guarantee, the government is determined to give every young person the chance to earn or learn.
