£8 million project to improve Dalwhinnie station access begins
Network Rail has announced an £8 million scheme to upgrade accessibility and reliability at Dalwhinnie station. The work involves renewing 400 yards of track and installing a new crossover. Passengers should expect line closures during two weekend periods in October and November.
Network Rail has confirmed that an £8 million project is underway to enhance the infrastructure at Dalwhinnie station. The scheme focuses on improving both accessibility and service reliability for those using the line. Gary Hopkirk, route director at Network Rail Scotland, said: "It's great to see this work progressing and we're looking forward to delivering a better, more accessible railway for passengers at Dalwhinnie."
The core of the works includes the installation of a new crossover, which will allow northbound trains to stop at Platform 1 to provide step-free access. Approximately 400 yards of track will be renewed, and outdated signalling equipment is set to be replaced. These upgrades are designed to enable trains to travel faster through the area once complete.
Service disruptions are planned for two specific periods. The line will be closed from Friday 30 October to Monday 2 November, and again from Friday 6 November to Monday 9 November. Following these weekend closures, work will continue at night and over weekends until the end of the year to remove remaining old equipment.
The announcement does not specify which particular services will be affected during the night and weekend works beyond the general closure periods. It also does not detail the specific timetable changes for passengers during the two main closure windows.
