62 athletes nominated for 2027 World Class Programme
British Athletics has announced that 62 athletes have been nominated for the 2027 World Class Programme. The initiative is funded by UK Sport and The National Lottery to support performance towards the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. Nominations remain subject to final ratification by UK Sport.
British Athletics has published the list of athletes nominated for membership of the UK Athletics Olympic World Class Programme for 2027. A total of 62 individuals have been selected to participate in the upcoming cycle. The organisation states that this group reflects the current depth of talent in British athletics.
Paula Dunn, Performance Director at UK Athletics, commented on the selection. "This group reflects the strength and depth of talent we currently have across British athletics, bringing together established international medallists alongside an exciting generation of emerging athletes who have demonstrated the potential to achieve success at future global championships." The programme is designed to assist athletes as they prepare for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
The World Class Programme operates across four distinct levels: Podium, Podium Potential, Relay and Confirmation. Ten new athletes have been placed on the confirmation level for the 2027 intake. Participants receive competition opportunities, training camps and multidisciplinary support to aid their development.
Financial support is a core component of the scheme. Each athlete may receive an Athlete Performance Award to assist with living and sporting costs. The funding for the entire programme is provided by UK Sport and The National Lottery, ensuring continued investment in elite performance.
Nominations are not final until they are ratified by UK Sport and a signed agreement is in place. This procedural step ensures that all administrative and contractual requirements are met before the programme commences. The focus remains on maximising performance and helping athletes realise their ambitions on the international stage.
