253 additional nursing graduates secure NHS Wales posts
Welsh Government has confirmed that 253 additional nursing graduates have secured posts across NHS Wales. The placements were achieved through joint action by health boards, universities, and the Welsh Government, with all graduates from Aberystwyth and Bangor universities now employed.
Welsh Government has announced that 253 additional nursing graduates have secured posts across NHS Wales. This outcome was achieved through joint action by health boards, universities, HEIW, NWSSP, and the Welsh Government, with an Additional Allocation Phase playing a key role in placing graduates into posts.
Since June, 250 additional nursing graduates have been placed into posts, while 28 secured employment through other routes or are not currently available for work. Health and Care Minister Mabon ap Gwynfor visited Aberystwyth University on 19 October. He said: "I'm really pleased to be meeting some of the nursing graduates in Aberystwyth who are now embarking on their careers with NHS Wales."
The department noted that all nursing graduates from Aberystwyth and Bangor universities have secured employment, with sufficient vacancies available to support the remaining unallocated graduates into employment. Lessons from the 2026 cohort will be used to align future workforce planning, education commissioning, and service needs.
